Neighbourhood profile
Did you know that Montreal’s Gay Village is the largest in North America? In recent years, this neighbourhood has enjoyed an economic renewal thanks to the active involvement of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community. It’s an “in” place to dance the night away, and you’ll find everything here: bars, night clubs, restaurants, drag shows, and “after hours” clubs.
The Village is known for its sense of freedom and security, and everyone is welcome. Montrealers of all stripes enjoy coming here for a good time. The many events – such as the Divers/Cité Festival – attract huge crowds along St. Catherine Street.
The Village is also an affordable residential district located just a few minutes from downtown. Fresh produce is available at the St. Jacques market on the corner of Amherst and Ontario streets.
