The Museum District

Neighbourhood profile

The Quartier du musée surrounds the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, one of Montreal’s most important museums. Founded in 1860, it houses an impressive collection of almost 3,000 works of art dating from antiquity to the present day Admission to the permanent collection is free at all times, and temporary exhibitions feature the great masters of classical and modern art.

This district, which has retained the Victorian charm of the 19th century, retraces the history of the bourgeoisie of that period. On Sherbrooke Street, its major artery, you will find many prestigious stores and art galleries.
