Outremont

Neighbourhood profile

Outremont is located along the slopes of Mount Royal, near the campus of Université de Montréal and its affiliate schools. It’s a peaceful neighbourhood, where nature is omnipresent. In fact, part of its territory is taken up by the Mount Royal Cemetery, one of the most beautiful garden cemeteries in North America – worth a visit for its footpaths, natural woodlands, and flowery islets.

A highly residential neighbourhood, Outremont is known for the beauty of its imposing old homes, such as those found on Maplewood Street, not far from Laurier Avenue. The residents are largely French-speaking, and there is also a significant Hassidic Jewish community.
